Over the last few weeks i rereaded Richard Williams 'The Animation Survival Kit'. I thought it was fun to put all the study into practice... What you see above are the first little results; a-scared-guy, a guy-who-runs-off and a basic walkcycle... Next week i will do some variations on the walk cycle... To watch the animations, you have to open each one

Well, this is a sketch for a illustration for another band i was recently asked to do... The illustration will be a digital painting... someday... :-)

Learned about a great new option in 3DS Max today, called 'Lathe'. That allows you to rotate your 2D spline around an axis... the three pictures above are a great example of that. The tire is a little bit more complex because, it is a combination of the 'lathe' fuction (the tire) and a 'Bevel' (the rim), what is something like a 'extrude'... Does anybody understand any of this? :-)

These are the 1st, 3th and 4th illustration of a song i'm illustrating of a band called: 'de halve perziken op zware siroop'. If you search in the archive you will find some earlier versions of illustration for the same song, but i won't use them because i wasn't very fond of them... These illustration are still a work in progress... It will be a total of 16 illustrations for this song... Normally i have finished this in the week of christmas...

Well, i started the new modelling course. And these are the first results. I'm learning all about Splines now... And how powerfull they can be, if you use them as a base of your 3D Object.

Oops, almost forgot this one... a experiment with the unwarp_edit tool in 3DS Max. Did this a few days ago...

Here are some more scribbles...
Here's a sketch i made during a class...

These come out of my pocket-sketchbook that i allways have with me. I allways scribble in this on when i'm on the bus, and it works perfectly because the drawings don't have to be perfect, if you know what i mean. Just some improvising...

Hey, did alot of experimenting in 3DS Max again. Especially with the materialEditor...

A school assignement. This is a little color sketch for a background assignement. Did this in Photoshop. The final version needs to be a real painting. This is one of my first paintings. It is unfinished, i will finish it later this week.

Today i also continued my course in 3DS Max. I learned how could model a plane out of a simple box... I know it looks dull, buts it's a start...

Well, something completely different today. I'm learning from this Video-tutorial for 3DS Max. We need to work with that program for school. The upcoming next weeks i'm gonna learn alot about the basics of 3DS Max. It's all very theoretical and all, so i really have to drag myself through it, but once i did the fun can begin... So i'm looking forward to that.
What you see above are just some basic Loft-editing and Scattering effects i learned today...

Well, these are my first results of life-drawings, since i've got the book 'Dynamic Life Drawing For Animators' of Mattesi. And my reference of course is Muybridge's 'The Human Figure in Motion'. I'm going to study this topic all year long, so i hope you could see some progress in a few, weeks or months...

Here are some more sketches to get a hang of the character. I also coloured one, just to see how it would look like. All these models are off-model. But that's okay... for now. I was just experimenting and try to figure out what the character was capable of. The next step is to get it on model... I also have a little monologue prepared which i wil use for lipsyncing.

I'm starting to focus on clothing. This is my first try. Offcourse i did clothes before, but now i'm really trying to focus how they interact with the body. And i'm using fashion-magazines as a reference to get a wider view of clothing. So i won't be longer stuck with the traditional shirt and pants...

This is a decor that i have drawn. For another school assignment. The goal here is to work with day and night colors, and how colors change when they are in a greater distant... So let's start photoshopping...
